Classification And Characteristics Of Steel Pipe Structure
Oct 17, 2017

At present, the steel pipe structure used in the project can be classified according to the section shape, structure form and manufacturing method. According to the form of cross section, the steel tube structure can be divided into three categories: tubular structure (CHS), square (moment) tube structure (RHS) and other shapes.

Because of its advantages in appearance and mechanical performance, circular tube structure and square tube structure are the most widely used. According to the structural form, the steel tube structure can be divided into four types: grid (reticulated shell), truss, frame and concrete filled steel tube. The form of steel pipe structure refers to the use of round pipe and square pipe as components, and the connection between pipe and pipe is through the form of intersecting welding connection.

According to the manufacturing method, the steel pipe structure can be divided into three types: hot rolled steel pipe structure, cold-rolled steel pipe structure and welded steel pipe structure. The wall thickness of the hot rolled steel pipe is thicker and the manufacturing cost is high, and the wall thickness of the cold rolled steel tube is relatively thin.

Circular and square (rectangular) are shaped steel tube structure characteristics: circular and square (rectangular) section is symmetrical, centroid and biaxial shear center overlap characteristics; round tube and square tube, the same moment of inertia of the shaft bending and compression members, as the most prominent advantages; section closed, torsional stiffness, plate local stability, especially the pipe section, the polar axis uniform distribution in the cross section, resistance torque is particularly effective; the appearance of simple, smooth, rod can be directly welded on the same point, no node plate, in order to save steel.
